  1. Country music is about storytelling; the lyrics address real issues and controversial subjects. Loretta Lynn's "The Pill" talks about women's reproductive agency, while Dolly Parton's "Just Because I’m a Woman" addresses sexist double-standards. Today I discovered Kenny Rogers recorded a song that addressed gang-rape. At 1:07:16 Kenny Rogers "Coward of the County" addresses violent gang-rape, the aftermath, and Tommy's character development:
There's someone for everyone, and Tommy's love was Becky / In her arms, he didn't have to prove he was a man / One day while he was working, the Gatlin boys came calling / They took turns at Becky, n'there was three of them / Tommy opened up the door, and saw his Becky crying / The torn dress, the shattered look was more than he could stand

  2. Some of these songs make me start bawling. They remind me of my parent's love for each other when they used to love each other. But mostly these are songs I have heard all through out my childhood here in the south.
